Abstract
The paper discusses the evolution of the labor market and the structure of employment in the province of Buenos Aires during the period 1991-2009. The analysis uses the articulation of a multiplicity of sources of information to take full account of the different aspects of labor phenomena. Basic indicators of the urban labor markets in major agglomerates of the province are analyzed using the National Household Survey. Moreover, the respective employment structures are characterized, considering different dimensions such as occupational category, public-private composition of the employment, registry status under social security, and sector of activity. It also addresses the characterization of private formal employment at the provincial level through administrative records from dependant workers payroll declared by contributors to Social Security. These data allow a highly disaggregated treatment of the information of great importance for the detailed sectoral analysis. Finally, public employment is characterized at all levels of Government [national, provincial and municipal] using data from budgetary resources and other less disseminated information elaborated by different government agencies. The paper provides descriptive analysis of these variables and a methodological detail on the sources and information processing
